Terms of Service
Effective 3 November 2026
These terms are the agreement between you and Green Truth Technology LLC (“Burnyt”, “we”, “us”) for using burnyt.com and the Burnyt service. By signing in or sending a payment you accept them. If you don’t, please don’t use Burnyt.
1. What Burnyt does
Burnyt burns bitcoin for you: it destroys sats permanently by sending them to an OP_RETURN output, which no one can ever spend. You pay us, and we burn the value we received, minus our fees, in a transaction on the Bitcoin blockchain. We often pay for the burn from our own bitcoin and keep your payment in its place.
Each burn is credited to a nostr public key (npub): yours, or the recipient’s for a gift. For an instant burn the npub is written into the burn transaction itself. For a batch burn it is listed in the batch’s public manifest, whose fingerprint is written into the batch’s transaction. Either way, the record is public and permanent.
A burn is not a purchase, deposit, investment or security. It gives you no claim on any asset or value, and no right to anything in return.
2. Who can use Burnyt
- You may use Burnyt only where it is lawful for you to do so. You are responsible for following the laws that apply to you, including tax rules.
- You must not use Burnyt if you are subject to sanctions, or with funds that come from, or are meant for, unlawful activity.
3. Your nostr identity
You sign in with a nostr key: through a browser extension, a remote signer, or a key you paste or create in the app. Our servers never receive or store your private key (nsec). If you create a key in the app, or save one with a password, it is kept only in that browser, encrypted with your password, and it stays there after you sign out until you remove it. We cannot recover a lost key or password, and anyone who has your key can act as you. Keep a backup somewhere safe.
4. Payments
- You can pay in bitcoin on-chain, over Lightning, or in USDT on TRON, wherever the app offers that method. Send USDT only as TRC-20 on TRON: anything sent on another network, or as another token, is lost.
- Each payment request is valid only for the time shown when it is created. A payment that arrives after it has expired is not burned (see section 6).
- Our fees and the minimum for each method are shown in the app before you pay, and they are taken from what you send. An instant burn pays our service fee and a network fee. The network fee shown is an estimate; for an on-chain payment the actual fee is set when the burn is made. A batch burn pays one batch fee that also covers its share of the network fee.
- A USDT payment is valued in sats at market prices from when it arrived, which can differ from the estimate shown earlier. Transfers sent close together count as one payment. We may stop taking USDT while its price is far from one dollar.
- A payment too small to cover its fees burns nothing (see section 6). One that covers its fees but is below the minimum shown is still burned, for whatever is left, with one exception: a USDT payment for an instant burn that leaves less than 546 sats after its fees is not burned and is held (see section 6).
5. Burns are final: no refunds
Burns are permanent and irreversible. Once a burn transaction is on the blockchain, no one, including us, can undo it. Every payment is final, and there are no refunds. Check the amount, the recipient and the payment method before you pay.
Payments sent to one address before its burn is made are burned together. A payment sent to that address after its burn is burned again as a separate burn, with its own fees, if it is large enough; otherwise it is held (see section 6).
6. Payments we cannot burn
Some payments cannot be burned as sent: they arrive after the payment request expired, are too small to cover their fees (for a USDT instant burn: leave less than 546 sats after fees), or their burn fails while being made. If a burn fails while being made, our team retries it, and once it goes out your payment is burned as normal. Late and too-small payments are held, and our team reviews each one.
Burns that failed or were too small are listed under “Under review” in your burns, each with its burn ID. A late payment is listed under “Past attempts”, marked “Held for review”. A payment sent long after its request, about a day or more, may not appear, so keep its transaction ID. To ask about a held payment, contact us with its burn ID or, for a payment that doesn’t appear, the transaction ID and the address you paid.
An on-chain payment that never confirms stays in your wallet. If it confirms later, it is held as described above.
7. Timing and holding
A burn goes out only after your payment is confirmed on its network. It can wait while network fees are very high, while our reserve of bitcoin is low, or while it waits to be signed. Batch burns, where offered, close once a day and are made after our team approves them, which can be later than the closing day; a payment that settles after a batch closes joins the next one. We do not guarantee when a burn will be made.
Your payment pays for your burn. It is not an account: it earns nothing and cannot be withdrawn.
8. What is public
Burns are meant to be seen. For each burn, the npub it is credited to, its amount, its USD value, its fees and its dates are public: on the blockchain or in batch manifests, on profiles and on the leaderboard. You cannot opt out. Unless you switch it off before paying, the app also posts a certificate of your burn from your own nostr account, and Burnyt’s nostr account may post one too.
Anyone can make a burn for, or credit a claim to, any npub. Burns found on the blockchain that carry an npub may be shown, with that npub’s public nostr profile, even if its owner never used Burnyt.
On a gift you are shown as the payer unless you choose to hide yourself before paying. We still keep the payer in our records, and the payment itself can be traced on the blockchain. The Privacy Policy explains this in detail.
9. Claims and certificates
You may claim a burn you made elsewhere by signing a message with the key of every input that funded it, and you may credit it to another npub. A burn that already carries an npub cannot be claimed. The signed proof, including the addresses used, is shown publicly on the claim’s certificate. Only claim burns you actually made.
10. Community and wallet features
Messages, groups, posts and zaps run on the public nostr network, through relays chosen by Burnyt but run by others. Direct messages are encrypted, but relays can see who messaged whom and when. Files you share go to third-party media hosts. If you connect a Lightning wallet, it stays yours: we never hold its funds, and its connection secret is kept only in your browser until you sign out or close Burnyt. We are not responsible for what others publish on nostr.
11. Acceptable use
Don’t use Burnyt to break the law, launder money or evade sanctions. Don’t attack or overload the service, try to get around its security, scrape it faster than its limits allow, impersonate others, or publish unlawful content through it. We may suspend or end access for anyone who does.
12. No advice, no warranty
Nothing on Burnyt is financial, investment, tax or legal advice. The service is provided “as is” and “as available”. We do not promise that it will be uninterrupted or free of errors, or that a burn will be made by a particular time.
13. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, lost profits, losses caused by networks, nodes, wallets or relays we do not control, or losses caused by you losing your keys. Our total liability for any claim about a burn is limited to the service fee we charged for that burn. Nothing in these terms limits a liability that the law does not allow to be limited.
14. Changes
We may change Burnyt or these terms. We will publish new terms here with a new effective date. If you keep using Burnyt after that, the new terms apply.
15. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the United Arab Emirates, and its courts handle any dispute, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring it elsewhere.
